
Why Your High-Ceiling Heaters Keep Dying (And How to Stop It)
If you’re running infrared heaters in a factory with high ceilings, you probably know the frustration. Everything looks great on day one, but then—out of nowhere—a unit goes dark. Most of the time, the heater itself is fine. The real problem is the lead-wire connection. Here is the thing: most generic heaters are held together with cheap adhesive or some low-grade heat shrink. It works for a while. But these heaters go through a brutal cycle of heating up and cooling down. Eventually, those cheap seals crack. Once air and moisture get in, oxygen starts eating away at the copper. The wire gets brittle, it shorts out, and you’re staring at a dead heater.
The “Three-Month” Curse
We see this all the time. A heater works perfectly for about ninety days, then it just quits. It usually happens right where the wire enters the quartz tube. Cheap seals just can’t keep up with the way materials expand and shrink when they get hot. We do things differently. Instead of just slapping some glue on it, we use a multi-stage process. We combine high-temp silicone gaskets with a reinforced compression sleeve. Think of it as a mechanical lock. It keeps the dust and dampness out, but it’s flexible enough to let the wire move a bit as the tube heats up. It basically keeps the oxygen away from the copper so the wire doesn’t rot.
A Small Catch During Install
Now, there is one thing you need to know. Because this seal is so heavy-duty, the lead wires are a bit stiffer. Please, don’t try to force them into a sharp kink just to fit a tight housing. If you bend them too hard, you’re putting a ton of stress on that seal. Just give the cables a natural, loose loop. It takes a few more inches of space, but it saves the junction from snapping.

At the end of the day, a good seal isn’t about making the heater look pretty. It’s about stopping “arc-overs.” When insulation fails, electricity can start leaking across the heater casing.
