
Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
If you’ve run a HyPET line, you know the struggle. Precision is everything. If your preform isn’t heated evenly all the way through the wall, you’re going to see those annoying thin spots or that cloudy “pearlescence” in your finished bottles. It’s a headache. That’s why we built our infrared lamps the way we did. The goal is simple: get the heat deep inside without scorching the surface.
Why most lamps miss the mark
Here’s the thing about standard lamps: they tend to roast the outer skin of the PET while the core stays cold. It’s like trying to thaw a frozen steak with a blowtorch—the outside burns before the middle even wakes up. We fixed that by tweaking the quartz coating and the filament geometry. By shifting the emission spectrum, we’ve basically tuned the wavelength so the energy actually sinks into the material. It reaches the center of those thick sections of the preform, which is where you actually need the heat.
Power, punch, and the perfect fit
HyPET lines move fast. To keep up with those cycle times, you need some serious power density. Our tubes are specced for high voltage and high wattage because you need that thermal punch to keep your throughput moving. And don’t worry about the fit. These are drop-in replacements. We’ve engineered the ends to be exact, so the lamp sits exactly where it’s supposed to in the oven. It sounds minor, but if a lamp is skewed by even a few millimeters, your whole heat profile goes out the window.
A quick word on installation
We use standard industrial connectors, so swapping them out on the floor is fast. You can get them wired up and moving during a changeover without any drama. But a heads-up: pushing higher wattage for better penetration puts more stress on your oven’s cooling system. If your blowers are clogged or your airflow is acting up, these high-output lamps will bake your reflectors. You’ve got to make sure your cooling capacity can handle the power, or you’ll end up burning out your sockets. Keep an eye on your airflow and you’ll be golden.
