Let’s talk specs
The Contiform 3 relies on high-wattage shortwave infrared lamps. These things run at high voltages to get PET softening fast. When you’re looking for a replacement, you have to get the voltage and wattage exactly right. If they don’t align with your power supply, you’re asking for trouble—either the lamps will burn out way too early, or your preforms won’t get hot enough. We build our lamps to survive the brutal cycling of a high-speed line. We’re talking massive heat flux packed into a small quartz tube. **One quick tip:**Keep your oven’s cooling fans clear. If the air inside the lamp cage gets too hot, those electrodes are going to degrade a lot faster than they should.
The build and the fit
We use heavy-wall quartz glass. Why? Because it doesn’t bow when things get scorching hot. We also use a halogen cycle to keep the tungsten filament healthy, which means these lamps just last longer than your basic incandescent tubes. As for the connection, we use standard R7s or Sk15 bases, depending on which oven you’ve got. This makes swaps during planned downtime a breeze. Just make sure the fit is tight. A loose connector creates arc points, and that’s a shortcut to a melted socket and a dead lamp. Not a great way to spend your afternoon.
Getting them in the machine
These lamps live in the infrared oven section of your blower. Their whole job is to blast the PET with enough energy to hit that glass transition temperature quickly. Since these are direct replacements, you can forget about rewiring your cabinets. Just swap the tubes, calibrate your heat zones, and you’re back in business.
