
Getting Your Automated Baking Heat Just Right
If you’re running an automated kitchen, you know the struggle: you tell your system to heat up, but your heating elements are lagging. Standard resistive coils are just too slow. They take forever to ramp up, which means your timing is always slightly off. That’s why we use short-wave infrared lamps. They react almost instantly. When your control system sends a command, the heat is there. It lets you tweak the temperature in real-time based on what your sensors are actually seeing. The secret is in the speed. Because these lamps use a quartz envelope with very low thermal mass, the filament hits its target temperature in milliseconds. It’s incredibly fast. We set these up for high-density heat so you can snap that crust into place without accidentally baking the inside into a brick. Just a heads-up: you’ll need a PID controller that samples quickly. If your loop is sluggish, you’ll overshoot your temp and end up with burnt product. It happens faster than you’d think. Making it fit your gear We don’t believe in “one size fits all.” We build these lamps to fit your specific machine footprint. Whether you want a standard R7s base or something custom-wired, we’ll make it work. The big thing here is the current. These lamps pull a lot of power, so the connections have to be rock solid or they’ll overheat. We can tweak the wattage and length to match how fast your conveyor belt is moving. More wattage means you can speed up your line, but it puts more pressure on your power supply. Just make sure your wiring gauge can handle the peak load, otherwise, you’ll deal with annoying voltage drops. A few things to watch out for Infrared heat is direct. It hits the dough and sinks in fast. Because it’s so intense, positioning is everything. If the lamps are too close, you’ll get hot spots. You have to find that sweet spot between the distance of the lamp and the wattage you’re running. And please, do yourself a favor: install a dedicated cooling fan for the lamp sockets. If you don’t, those plastic housings will melt during a long shift. Proper venting isn’t just a “good idea”—it’s the only way your hardware is going to survive the heat.
