Ever feel like you’re chasing your tail with your bottle wall thickness? You tweak the settings, run a few samples, and you’re still getting those annoying thin spots or total bottle failures. Here is the thing: usually, it isn’t your oven controls acting up. It’s the lamps. It sounds simple, but mixing different brands or using bulbs with slightly different wattages creates “cold spots” in your heating profile. You might think a tiny difference doesn’t matter, but your PET preforms definitely notice. The wattage trap We built our replacement lamps to mirror the original factory specs for the Blomax 4, 6, 8, and 10. Think about it this way: if one lamp is even 5% off, it changes how the heat actually hits the plastic. To fix that one cold spot, you’ll probably crank up the overall oven temp. But then you’re overheating everything else. It’s a losing battle. We keep the voltage and wattage exactly where they should be so you can actually stop messing with the dials. The nitty-gritty stuff These are shortwave infrared halogen lamps made with high-purity quartz. Why? Because it lets the IR light through without fighting the glass. We also paid a lot of attention to the connectors—the R7s and Sk15 types. They’re designed to handle serious heat without loosening up. A loose connection is more than just a flicker; it creates resistance that can actually melt your socket. Not a great day at the office. Getting them in the machine These are just drop-in replacements. No need to rewire your cabinets or dive into your PLC settings. You just swap them and go. But a quick tip: high-wattage lamps put out a ton of localized heat. If your reflection shields are dirty or oxidized, the lamp has to work overtime to push that heat into the preform. That kills the filament faster. Keep those reflectors polished and your lamps will actually last as long as they’re supposed to. Next time you see inconsistent bottle weights, take a look at your lamps before you start messing with your blower timings. It might be the simplest fix of all.
